Death Cab for Cutie announced yesterday that they will be playing a date in Dublin’s Ambassador on Novemeber 13th. These guys are my second favourite band ever so I’m so excited that this has beena announced. earlier in the week I was considering a trip to the Uk in order to see them play in Sheffield or London.

Tickets go on sale Friday, 22 August and are priced €30. If they sell out and I dont manage to get one there will be tears.

I cant stop listening to these guys. i love everything Ben, Chris the whole lot of them.

Death Can are Playing Dublin

This past Sunday June 27th I saw the Daniel Johnston and Friends show in Dublin. Norman Blake was probably the highlight of my evening. The crowd really loved the entire show but Normans songs had something special, especially Baby lee.

The evening was fantastic with Daniel Johnston and friends the show saw the following play as backing players and support acts: Mark Linkous (Sparklehorse), Scout Niblett, Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub), Jad Fair (Half Japanese) and James McNew (Yo La Tengo).

Daniel himself was in good form he played very few songs . he did play true love.

True Love Will Find You in the End

Death Cab for Cutie have hopped into the passenger seat of one of those Black Cab Sessions. The thoughtful Pacific Northwest rockers are poised to score their first-ever No. 1 album with the just-released Narrow Stairs, and here Ben Gibbard and Chris Walla give a strong acoustic rendition of one of that album’s highlights, the sunny loss-of-innocence song “No Sunlight”. The sunshine streaming onto Death Cab’s shoulders through the black cab’s windows is actually a good evocation of the gleaming warmth of childhood, which Gibbard describes: “When I was young lying in the grass/ I felt so safe in a warming bath/ Of sunlight, of sunlight.” The actual sunlight in the video pretty much stays there, even as Gibbard sings matter-of-factly about the sunlight– and the optimism inside of him– dying doornail dead. Hope the harmonies cheer these guys up, but not before Gibbard writes a few more like this one.

Nokia have announced the immediate availability of the Nokia Music Store in Ireland (Nokia Press Release) As with the UK store, you’re going to need to have Internet Explorer to make full use of the service. To entice you in Nokia are offering a number of vouchers, some 24,000 of them giving up to 10 Euros of music. And everyone gets a free Tom Baxter track.

It’s nice to see Nokia’s Music Store to continue to roll out around the territories, but it does feel a touch like an army just moving around the barracks before the big guns decide to come out. Comes with Music is on its way, Nokia are talking to the remaining major music labels to get them on board, and Apple are making noises about replicating the music subscription service on the iPhone.

In all of this, the Music Stores is preparing the ground, rolling out software to the hardware, keeping Nokia’s hand alive, and you have to assume showing a nice return to the labels at the discussion table - which must be a great negotiating tool. And of curse the users of the music service mus be enjoying it as well.
