This past Sunday June 27th I saw the Daniel Johnston and Friends show in Dublin. Norman Blake was probably the highlight of my evening. The crowd really loved the entire show but Normans songs had something special, especially Baby lee.

The evening was fantastic with Daniel Johnston and friends the show saw the following play as backing players and support acts: Mark Linkous (Sparklehorse), Scout Niblett, Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub), Jad Fair (Half Japanese) and James McNew (Yo La Tengo).

Daniel himself was in good form he played very few songs . he did play true love.

I downloaded six applications at first. A short line on each follows but all I can say is wow! especially the Facebook and twitter apps are just fantastic. I have tried various S60 applications before but none of these match up with the experience to be had on the iPod touch. I’m nearly tempted to get an iPhone if the phone has improved in version 2.0. I was less than impressed with 1.0.

Facebook: The application is good but could do more. i like the ability to see the high quality photos compared with a S60 or Blackberry size screen.
Hotels.com: Great, I can see this being really useful when on tour.
Light: Does what it says on the box. Make a light and use up all that battery power.
Twitterific: twitter on steroids. My new desktop application of choice for Twitter may be tweet deck but this is a great start on theiPhone.
French:
ShoZu: the best mobile application for social media comes to the iPhone. Great application from a company that knows what they are doing. i love it.

iPod touch experiments

Death Cab for Cutie have hopped into the passenger seat of one of those Black Cab Sessions. The thoughtful Pacific Northwest rockers are poised to score their first-ever No. 1 album with the just-released Narrow Stairs, and here Ben Gibbard and Chris Walla give a strong acoustic rendition of one of that album’s highlights, the sunny loss-of-innocence song “No Sunlight”. The sunshine streaming onto Death Cab’s shoulders through the black cab’s windows is actually a good evocation of the gleaming warmth of childhood, which Gibbard describes: “When I was young lying in the grass/ I felt so safe in a warming bath/ Of sunlight, of sunlight.” The actual sunlight in the video pretty much stays there, even as Gibbard sings matter-of-factly about the sunlight– and the optimism inside of him– dying doornail dead. Hope the harmonies cheer these guys up, but not before Gibbard writes a few more like this one.
