Raheny 5 2009

I ran my first race of the year yesterday in nice conditions in Raheny. the rain started pouring at 2 but stopped for the race itself. the course itself is flat enough and would compare with docklands for an 8K PB track. The 5 mile road race is now in its 26th year and that was represented in the excellent organisation. I was a bit too far back at the start and it took me about half a mile to get past all the slower runners.

I got a new watch on Saturday and it proved a great help. I ran the first mile in 5.14 but then came close to 11 minutes on mile two. After running for the best part of a mile with nobody passing me I started slowing the pace a bit and went over 17 minutes. A good forth brought me to the last lap just on 22 minutes. I went for it up the hill and got a good kick from all the spectators encouraging Annette Keally who was running with me for the last mile. With half a mile left I cam around the bend and I had allot of kick left and went for home. Sorry not to get under 28 I finished in 28:09 which is not too bad swwing as I havn’t trained too mch recently. The session with teh club should help going forward.
